Altered DNA methylation in children born to mothers with rheumatoid arthritis during pregnancy
Annals of Rheumatic Diseases Jun 06, 2019
Ince-Askan H, et al. - Researchers compared DNA methylation profiles of children born to mothers with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) to those born to mothers from the general population, to look for any possible differences. They also investigated if any variations in methylation are related to maternal RA disease activity or medication use during pregnancy. Children born to mothers with RA had DNA methylation at 147 cytosine-phosphate-guanine different from that observed in children born to mothers from the general population. Findings revealed no association of differences in methylation, with maternal RA disease activity or medication use during pregnancy. If the observed links are causal, and if so whether they are attributed to disease or treatment, remained unknown.
