Α modified temporalis transfer technique for facial paralysis in elderly patients
Injury Mar 02, 2020
Papadopulos NA, et al. - Given that in cases of chronic facial palsy where conservative means or only nerve grafting can not be adopted as a treatment choice, reconstruction by dynamic procedures such as pedicled and/or free muscle transfer is needed, so, researchers performed this study wherein 5 patients suffering from chronic facial palsy were treaded by temporalis muscle transfer to the eye and mouth simultaneously. Gillies-McLaughlin technique was applied in 4 of them, and a modified technique was used for the fifth one. All patients achieved satisfactory results. Relative to the standard Gillies-McLaughlin technique, the use of the modified technique afforded faster healing process, and the easiest achievement of aesthetic and functional reanimation, with no donor-site morbidity.
