Alopecia neoplastica as a sign of visceral malignancies: A systematic review
Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology Feb 22, 2019
Paolino G, et al. – Researchers assessed 123 candidates to examine the principal demographic and clinical characteristics correlated with alopecia neoplastica (AN) from visceral malignancies. According to observations, women were more affected by AN vs men (53.7% vs 46.3%). Furthermore, the gastrointestinal tract (24.4%) was the most frequent primary tumor site, followed by breast (17.9%), kidney (8.1%), lung (7.3%), thyroid (7.3%), uterus (6.5%), central nervous system (6.5%), liver (3.3%), and other anatomic regions for 18.7% of participants. The investigators noted single lesions of AN in 66.1% of participants, which were chiefly diagnosed following the primary visceral tumor (71.5%). They reported no significant differences in overall survival among both sexes.
