Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology Jul 18, 2019
Waśkiel-Burnat A, et al. - Researchers conducted this investigation to evaluate the predictive value of trichoscopy for the therapeutic outcome in patients with patchy alopecia areata. Participants in the study were 65 patients. At baseline and two months after initiation of therapy, trichoscopy was conducted. Investigators found that upright regrowing hairs and pigtail hairs are positive in patchy alopecia areata, while negative predictive markers are black dots, broken hairs, exclamation mark hairs and tapered hairs. In patients with patchy alopecia areata, Alopecia Areata Predictive Score is a new trichoscopy-based tool for predicting treatment outcomes.
