Alopecia areata is characterized by expansion of circulating Th2/Tc2/Th22, within the skin-homing and systemic T-cell populations
Allergy Nov 03, 2017
Czarnowicki T, et al. - This study entails a comparison between frequencies of skin homing (CLA+) vs. systemic (CLA-) Âpolar CD4+ and CD8+ and activated T-cell subsets in alopecia areata (AA) vs. AD and control blood. Findings demonstrated that AA was accompanied by Th2/Tc2 activation in skin homing and systemic subsets, correlating with disease severity, while IFN-γ was related to disease chronicity. Also, it was indicated that diverse T-cells subsets possibly have a role in disease pathogenesis. Furthermore, the systemic nature of AA was also underscored, supporting the requirement for systemic therapeutic strategies in severe patients.
