Allergic contact dermatitis to personal care products and topical medications in adults with atopic dermatitis
Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology Jul 30, 2018
Rastogi S, et al. - Researchers ascertained the predictors of allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) and relevant allergens in atopic dermatitis (AD). They performed a retrospective chart review of 502 adults (age ≥18 years) who were patch-tested to an expanded allergen series from 2014-2017. Findings suggested a more positive patch test reactions of AD patients to ingredients in personal care products, topical steroids and antibiotics, including fragrance mix II, lanolin, bacitracin, cinnamal, budesonide, tixocortol, and chlorhexidine. More commonly, polysensitization occurred in patients with vs without AD.
