Allergic asthma is associated with increased risk of infections requiring antibiotics

Woehlk C, et al. - Based on data from a nationwide population of patients with asthma, allergy was investigated as a risk factor for respiratory infections requiring antibiotics. An increased risk of being prescribed antibiotics for respiratory infections was noted among patients with allergic asthma versus patients with non-allergic asthma. Notably, treatment with allergen immunotherapy appeared to have a protective effect against this risk.
