Tselios K, et al. - Via following 1732 patients in the Toronto Lupus Clinic, researchers assessed the evolution of the all-cause, cause-specific and age-specific standardised mortality ratios (SMRs) of lupus patients in Ontario, Canada. Over time, the all-cause and cause-specific SMR decreased significantly, probably reflecting advances in SLE management and some comorbidities. For younger patients (<40 years old), the all-cause and cause-specific SMR was particularly high.
