All-cause and cause-specific mortality trends of end-stage renal disease due to lupus nephritis from 1995 to 2014
Arthritis & Rheumatology Jan 15, 2019
Jorge A, et al. - Between January 1, 1995, and December 31, 2014, authors evaluated 20,974 individuals to assess the all-cause and cause-specific mortality trends of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) due to lupus nephritis (LN). They observed a decline in mortality rate per 100 patient-years from 11.1 in 1995–1999 to 6.7 in 2010–2014. They also noted a reduction in deaths from cardiovascular disease (CVD) and infection by 44% and 63%, respectively, from 1995–1999 to 2010–2014. They compared adjusted mortality hazard ratios of both the time intervals (ie, 2010–2014 with 1995–1999) and observed a significant decrease in all-cause mortality among African American, white, and Hispanic individuals, with a lesser risk of death from CVD and infection.
