Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology Mar 24, 2019
Dhana A, et al. - In this systematic review and meta-analysis, researchers examined all-cause and cause-specific mortality in psoriasis cases. They noted the following values of pooled relative risks (RRs) for all-cause mortality: 1.21 in psoriasis, 1.13 in mild psoriasis, and 1.52 in severe psoriasis.
they also found the pooled RRs for cardiovascular mortality, 1.15 in psoriasis, 1.05 in mild psoriasis, and 1.38 in severe psoriasis. A significant increase in psoriasis irrespective of disease severity was reported for noncardiovascular causes, mortality risk from liver disease, kidney disease, and infection. They noticed the highest mortality risk in liver and kidney disease. They found a significant incline in mortality risk correlated with neoplasms in severe psoriasis cases and chronic lower respiratory disease in all and mild cases of psoriasis.
