Alcohol use disorders before and after bariatric surgery: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Azam H, et al. - This systematic review and meta-analysis was undertaken to ascertain the rate of alcohol use disorder (AUD) in the postoperative period following bariatric surgery for weight management. Researchers performed electronic searches using six databases from their dates of inception to January 2017. They noted an increase in the prevalence of AUD in patients undergoing gastric bypass surgery but not gastric banding. No significant increase in the risk of AUD was noted in the first 2 years postoperatively but thereafter it increased.
