Alcohol use and hospital readmissions following stroke: A safety net hospital experience
Journal of the Neurological Sciences Dec 20, 2017
Parikh S, et al. - Physicians designed this study to characterize predictors of stroke-related readmissions at 30 days on a safety net hospital level and suggested interventions to reduce the number of readmissions. Collected evidence represented that during the index hospital admission, early inpatient and post-hospitalization interventions to address alcohol abuse could reduce the rate of hospital readmission within 30 days. The outcomes had prompted interventions on the stroke service like early inpatient social work and addiction medicine involvement for patients with risk factors for alcohol abuse.
