Alcohol use and cardiovascular disease risk in patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease

Gastroenterology Aug 15, 2017

VanWagner LB, et al. – This research aspired to evaluate whether alcohol use was correlated with cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk in patients with non–alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Prospectively evaluated alcohol use was not correlated with significant differences in risk factors for CVD or markers of subclinical CVD in a population–based sample of individuals with NAFLD in midlife. In patients with NAFLD, alcohol use could not reduce the risk of CVD in contrast to general population findings.
