Georgakis MK, et al. - Researchers performed this study to determine whether albuminuria (a marker of systemic endothelial dysfunction) was correlated with cerebral small vessel disease (SVD). They found an independent association between albuminuria with cerebral SVD, indicating shared microvascular pathology in the kidney and the brain. Findings suggested that in the evaluation of brain microvascular damage, peripheral systemic microvascular disease biomarkers could be useful.
