Albumin and hemoglobin trajectories and incident disabling dementia in community-dwelling older Japanese
Dementia and Geriatric Cognitive Disorders Jul 20, 2019
Taniguchi Y, et al. - In community-dwelling older Japanese, researchers conducted this prospective study to define aging trajectories in serum albumin and hemoglobin levels and examined whether these trajectories were linked to incident disabling dementia using repeated measures analysis. Over the period from June 2002 to July 2017, a total of 2,005 adults aged 65–90 had in annual geriatric health assessments. Investigators found that dementia risk for people with low trajectories for serum albumin and hemoglobin levels was greater. This finding highlights the importance of interventions in middle-aged and older adults with low serum albumin and hemoglobin levels that enhance dietary status and control appropriate illnesses.
