Albumin, a marker for post-operative myocardial damage in cardiac surgery
Journal of Critical Care Jun 15, 2018
van Beek DEC, et al. - In this single-center cohort study including adult patients undergoing cardiac surgery, researchers examined the link between pre-operative serum albumin (SA), early post-operative SA and postoperative myocardial injury. Linear regression and with multivariable linear regression were used, accounting for patient related and procedural confounders, to analyze the link. Using (multivariable) log binomial regression analysis, the link between SA and the secondary outcomes (peri-operative myocardial infarction [PMI], requiring ventilation >24 h, rhythm disturbances, 30-day mortality) was determined. Findings demonstrated a significant correlation between post-operative albumin levels and the amount of postoperative myocardial damage in patients undergoing cardiac surgery independent of typical confounders.
