Airflow limitation and survival after surgery for non-small cell lung cancer: Results from a systematic review and lung cancer screening trial (NLST-ACRIN sub-study)
Lung Cancer Aug 29, 2019
Hopkins RJ, et al. - Because lung cancer remains the single greatest cause of cancer mortality where surgery for early-stage non-small cell lung cancer achieves the greatest survival, researchers compared survival in non-small cell lung cancer patients undergoing surgery stratified based on the presence or absence of presurgery airflow limitation. Between January 1946 and January 2017, they conducted a systematic literature search for non-screen lung cancer that included studies reported. The study sample consisted of 6,899 individuals. No difference was found in 5-year survival in those with and without airflow limitation in the lung cancer screening sub-study of 10,054 screening candidates. The authors concluded that non-small cell lung cancer survival after surgery is similar between those with and without airflow limitation evidence. This finding has been replicated during screening in the lung cancer diagnosed.
