Surgical Endoscopy Mar 12, 2020
Wang RC, et al. - Via performing a systematic review and meta-analysis, researchers investigated the efficacy of aggressive hydration with lactated Ringer solution in preventing PEP. Following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines, they screened all published and unpublished articles on aggressive hydration with lactated ringer solution in those who underwent endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography procedure for any reason for eligibility. The inclusion criteria were met by seven RCTs. The meta-analysis suggested aggressive hydration with lactated Ringer solution as a protective factor in decreasing the overall frequency of PEP, hyperamylasemia, and risk of abdominal pain.
