Ages of hepatocellular carcinoma occurrence and life expectancy are associated with a UGT2B28 genomic variation
BMC Cancer Dec 13, 2019
Le PH, Kuo CJ, Hsieh YC, et al. - Because the role of UGT2B28 in the clinical course of liver diseases, especially the incidence of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), has not been studied to date, researchers explored the link between UGT2B28-rs2132039 genomic variant and the clinicopathological characteristics, especially the age at presentation in early HCC patients. In total, 382 HCC individuals treated by surgical resections was investigated. According to findings, individuals with UGT2B28-rs2132039 - TT variant type had an earlier HCC presentation, earlier post-surgery recurrence, metastasis and death associated with HCC. The mean age difference of HCC presentation in alcoholic patients was particularly large (~ 10 years). Such information is useful in formulating an effective strategy for monitoring.
