Aged garlic extract preserves cutaneous microcirculation in patients with increased risk for cardiovascular diseases: A double-blinded placebo-controlled study
International Wound Journal Sep 22, 2019
Wlosinska M, et al. - Because aged garlic extract (AGE) has been suggested to have a positive impact on vascular elasticity and endothelial function, researchers evaluated the impact of long-term treatment with AGE on cutaneous tissue perfusion. In total, 122 patients with Framingham Risk Scores ≥ 10 were randomized in a double-blinded manner to placebo or 2,400-mg AGE daily for 1 year and monitored. Using laser Doppler velocimetry, cutaneous microcirculation was measured at 0 and 12 months. According to findings, 12 months of AGE supplement may preserve and even improve microcirculation, as measured by laser Doppler velocimetry. The researchers also noted that, hypothetically, preserving or even increasing microvascular blood flow and cutaneous tissue perfusion may facilitate wound healing.
