Age-specific incidence of melanoma in the United States
JAMA Dermatology Nov 24, 2019
Paulson KG, Gupta D, Kim TS, et al. - In this population-based study involving 988,103 cases of invasive melanoma reported between 2001 and 2015, researchers analyzed the incidence of melanoma in the United States and if any age-specific differences were present. From 2006 to 2015, the melanoma incidence raised overall but reduced among people aged 10 to 29 years at diagnosis in the US. Such results were based on data from the US Cancer Statistics National Program of Cancer Registries. The apparent decline in the incidence of melanoma in adolescents and young adults in the US contrasts with an increased incidence of melanoma in older ages and may be linked to sun protection interventions, supporting ongoing prevention efforts.
