Age-related changes of shape and flow dynamics in healthy adult aortas: A 4D Flow MRI Study
Journal of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Aug 20, 2018
Callaghan FM, et al. - In this retrospective study, researchers identified the changes in flow, shape, and size that occur in the ascending aorta with normal human ageing as well as the influence of these factors on aortic flow dynamics. For this investigation, study participants underwent a cardiac MRI (3T) exam including 4D-flow MRI of the aorta. In younger subjects, aortic shape influences flow dynamics. Results of this study suggested that flow conditions become increasingly disturbed with advancing age, and in these conditions normalized by the aortic volume (nSV) had a more dominant impact on flow patterns vs shape factors.
