Age at natural menopause and life expectancy with and without type 2 diabetes

Asllanaj E, et al. - Researchers examined 3,650 postmenopausal women aged ≥ 45 years from the Rotterdam Study to assess the combined effect of early menopause and diabetes on life expectancy and the number of years lived with and without diabetes. They performed following categorization of age at menopause: early (≤ 44 years of age), normal (45-54 years of age), and late (≥ 55 years of age). According to findings, compared with women who reported normal or late menopause, women who had early menopause had a shorter life span and spent fewer years without diabetes.
