African-American race and mortality in interstitial lung disease: A multicenter propensity-matched analysis
European Respiratory Journal May 11, 2018
Adegunsoye A, et al. - This multicenter, propensity score matched analysis inspected if African-American race correlated with younger age and decreased survival time at the diagnosis of interstitial lung disease (ILD) at five US hospitals between 2006-2016. It was observed that in contrast with patients of other races, African-Americans with ILD appeared to be younger at diagnosis. However, in the propensity-matched analyses they had greater survival despite similar risk of respiratory hospitalisations and similar gender-age-physiology (GAP)-ILD scores at study entry. A unique phenotype related to younger age at ILD diagnosis and perhaps longer survival time was displayed by African-Americans.
