Adverse maternal and neonatal outcomes in pregnant women with abnormal glucose metabolism
Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice Feb 20, 2020
Li MF, Ma L, Yu TP, et al. - Researchers evaluated the prevalence as well as the risk of adverse perinatal outcomes among pregnant women exhibiting abnormal glucose metabolism. This study included 3,269 Chinese pregnant women with singleton delivery. The participants comprised 787 cases with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), 115 with pregnancy with diabetes (PWD), and 2,367 with normal glucose tolerance. Successively independent risk factors for maternal as well as neonatal adverse outcomes, identified in this study, were raised fasting insulin and glycated hemoglobin A1c. A remarkably heightened risk of adverse perinatal outcomes such as pregnancy-induced hypertension, low birth weight, was observed in relation to gestational abnormal glucose metabolism. A higher risk of adverse perinatal outcomes was observed in PWD vs GDM.
