Advancing parental age and risk of solid tumors in children: A case-control study in Peru
Journal of Oncology Jun 22, 2018
Rios L, et al. - Whether parental age is associated with childhood solid tumors, was investigated in this hospital-based case-control study (310 cases and 620 controls, matched by age and gender) at Rebagliati Hospital, Lima, Peru. With and without adjusting for possible confounding factors, researchers calculated the odds ratio and used it to compare categories of advancing maternal and paternal age. Findings revealed an association between advanced parental age and the risk for retinoblastoma development. They found an increased risk of non-Hodgkin lymphoma and gonadal germ cell tumor attributed to advanced paternal age. They also observed that the higher the order of birth of the children, the less the chance of developing any neoplasm.
