Advanced cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma is associated with suboptimal initial management in a cohort of 109 patients
Dermatology Aug 09, 2019
Deilhes F, et al. - As little is known about the epidemiological characteristics of advanced cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (A-cSCC) patients, researchers identified the epidemiological factors correlated with A-cSCC. This investigation was performed on a routine care cohort of 109 individuals (median age was 83 years). According to this retrospective study, 60% of the patients had a history of cardiac disease and 22% had cognitive disorders. In 72% of cases, the cSCC lesions were on the head and neck. In an elderly and rural population with an excellent general condition, A-cSCC is linked to incomplete initial treatment. They assumed that an absence of access to excellent dermatological expertise may have resulted in the underestimation of cSCC's aggressiveness and/or therapeutic mismanagement.
