Adult postcardiac arrest interventions: An overview of randomized clinical trials
Resuscitation Dec 19, 2019
Andersen LW, et al. - Researchers sought to summarize published and registered trials related to postcardiac arrest interventions. Searching PubMed and the International Clinical Trials Registry Platform, they identified 65 manuscripts reporting randomized clinical trials. During the last 10 years, the majority of these trials were published; these trials generally had low sample sizes with a median of 90 participants (quartiles: 49, 262; range: 9, 1,359). In the majority of the trials, in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (79%) was assessed, while there were only 6% that were conducted particularly in in-hospital cardiac arrest and 15% that included both in- and out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. Forty-eight registered trials were identified online; these had a median target sample size of 100 participants (quartiles: 60, 400; range: 20, 1,900). Patients with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (71%) were enrolled in the majority of these trials while there were 6% trials that specifically focused on in-hospital cardiac arrest. This information seemed to be beneficial for future research.
