Adult liver disease prognostic modelling for long-term outcomes in biliary atresia: An observational cohort study
Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology Jun 28, 2021
Jain V, Burford C, Alexander EC, et al. - In this single-centre retrospective analysis, researchers sought to evaluate the utility of prognostic scoring systems for adolescents with biliary atresia (BA) surviving with native liver, for anticipating the subsequent requirement for liver transplantation (LT). The sample consisted of 397 BA patients who received Kasai Portoenterostomy (KP) 1980–1996 and survived with the native liver at 16 years. Adult LT allocation scores may be useful for tracking adolescent BA progress, but the lack of pertinent risk factors limits their utility in this cohort. The management of adolescent BA would benefit from a BA-specific prognostic score.
