Hanna J, et al. - Using the National Emergency Department Sample to characterize adult epiglottitis from 2007 to 2014, investigators assessed the patterns of adult epiglottitis presenting to the emergency department (ED) along with the mortality in 33,549 identified cases. They noted epiglottitis a significant pathology observed in EDs. They observed a low rate of documented clinical treatments in the ED when compared with inpatient studies of the epiglottis. Indication of demand and utilization of critical airway interventions early in the patient encounter was suggested.
