Adrenarche and pubarche in girls with Turner syndrome during growth-promoting therapy with human growth hormone
BMC Endocrine Disorders Jan 24, 2019
Dörr HG, et al. - In this cohort of 94 girls and young women with Turner syndrome (TS) born between 1971 and 2001 (age range: 3.1–23.2 years), researchers studied the course of adrenarche and pubarche, defined as the appearance of pubic hair (PH2), during growth hormone (GH) therapy. Investigators found that adrenarche started from 5 to 7 years in TS girls. It was noted that the onset of adrenarche in TS girls undergoing GH therapy is no different from healthy girls, though adrenarche in girls with TS is more pronounced. No difference was found in dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate levels between the TS girls with spontaneous puberty and the TS girls with primary ovarian insufficiency, whereas the pubarche speed in girls with POI is significantly slower.
