Adoption of pre-biopsy magnetic resonance imaging for men undergoing prostate biopsy in the united states
Urology Apr 28, 2018
Liu W, et al. - Experts evaluated the adoption of pre-biopsy prostate magnetic resonance image (MRI) in the United States and evaluate factors associated with MRI-guided prostate biopsies (MRI-Bx) use. Pre-biopsy prostate MRI utilization was concentrated within urban areas and among patients with prior negative biopsies, in men undergoing prostate biopsy, where its use was related to superior cancer detection vs traditional TRUS-guided biopsies. Authors noted a 4 times more likelihood of patients with prior negative biopsies to receive MRI-guidance and had a greater chance of cancer detection with MRI-Bx.
