Adoption of digital breast tomosynthesis in clinical practice
JAMA Jun 30, 2019
Richman IB, et al. - Experts reported the adoption of digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) for breast cancer screening in a large privately insured population, identified regional patterns of adoption, and assessed regional-level features associated with that adoption as compared to digital mammography. In comparison to two-dimensional mammography, the use of DBT had some major trade-offs like more expensive costs and greater radiation doses with some machines. Moreover, most studies of DBT were retrospective and could not assess its long-term health results. While the US Preventive Services Task Force and the American Cancer Society do not support DBT for breast cancer screening, the American College of Radiology has validated its use.
