Adolescents living with HIV: Contraceptive services and uptake in general primary healthcare clinics and stand-alone youth clinics
Journal of Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology Apr 28, 2021
Olagbuji B, Cooper DD, Mathews C, et al. - This study was undertaken to determine if current contraceptive uptake, unmet need for contraception and unintended pregnancy among female adolescents living with HIV (ALHIV) differ with the model of access sites for HIV-related services, that is, stand-alone youth clinics (YCs) vs general primary health clinics (PHC). The exit interviews were completed by 303 female ALHIV. Contraceptive prevalence for female ALHIV was high among both general PHC and stand-alone YCs. The contraceptive method mix was comparable between both groups of female ALHIV. Integrating youth-friendly services into existing healthcare facilities could result in comparable contraceptive service provision, uptake, and outcomes for ALHIV as stand-alone youth clinics.
