Adolescent mental health program components and behavior risk reduction: A meta-analysis
Pediatrics Aug 06, 2019
Skeen S, Laurenzi CA, Gordon SL, et al. - In this meta-analysis, researchers identified efficient program components of interventions to support mental health and prevent mental disorders and risk behaviors during adolescence and match these components across these important health results in order to inform future development of multicomponent intervention. A total of 14,600 records have been identified, and 158 studies were involved. Findings suggested that universally delivered interventions can improve mental health of adolescents and reduce risk behavior. Of 7 components with consistent efficacy signals, 3 had significant effects on multiple outcomes (interpersonal skills, emotional regulation, and alcohol and drug education). Three program elements have appeared as continuously efficient across various results, offering a foundation for future multi-outcome intervention programs to be developed.
