Admissions rate and timing of revascularization in the United States in patients with non-ST-elevation myocardial infarction
The American Journal of Cardiology Sep 10, 2020
Case BC, Yerasi C, Wang Y, et al. - In view of the results from clinical trials demonstrating benefits with an early invasive approach for non-ST-elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI), researchers here assessed data from the 2016 Nationwide Readmissions Database investigating NSTEMI rates, revascularization timing, and mortality. They identified 748,463 weighted NSTEMI hospitalizations in 2016 for inclusion in this analysis; of these, 50.3% (376,695) involved diagnostic angiography, with 34.1% (255,199) involving revascularization. Delayed revascularization was more frequent among patients with more comorbidities. Highest in-hospital mortality was observed in the early revascularization period (< 24 hours). Increase in thirty-day mortality was noted as the revascularization was delayed.
