Adjuvant vaginal brachytherapy and chemotherapy vs pelvic radiotherapy in early-stage endometrial cancer: Outcomes by risk factors
Gynecologic Oncology Nov 25, 2019
Tatebe K, et al. - In order to define possible subgroups of patients who may be benefited with VBT + CT vs EBRT, researchers assessed patterns of care and examined the two treatment regimens, by utilizing a large retrospective hospital-based registry. They identified patients from the National Cancer Database who satisfied the inclusion criteria for GOG 249 and were managed with either VBT + CT or WPRT. Overall patients were 4,602: 41% treated with VBT + CT and 59% managed with WPRT. Findings revealed that superior survival outcomes were provided by VBT + CT in patients with early-stage serous carcinoma. For non-serous histology, treatment modality was not related to a difference in survival, although EBRT benefited patients with high-grade disease and no nodal dissection.
