Adjuvant vaginal brachytherapy and chemotherapy vs pelvic radiotherapy in early-stage endometrial cancer: Outcomes by risk factors
Gynecologic Oncology Oct 23, 2019
Tatebe K, et al. - Using a large retrospective hospital-based registry, researchers analyzed patterns of care and assessed the two treatment regimens to recognize possible subgroups of patients who may derive benefit from VBT + CT vs EBRT. From the National Cancer Database, they selected patients who satisfied the inclusion criteria for GOG 249 and received either VBT + CT or WPRT. They gathered demographic, clinicopathologic, and treatment factors. Overall patients were 4,602; 41% being treated with VBT + CT and 59% with WPRT. They found that superior survival outcomes were provided by VBT + CT in patients with early-stage serous carcinoma. For non-serous histology, there was no relation of treatment modality with a difference in survival, although EBRT benefited patients with high-grade disease and no nodal dissection.
