Adjuvant external beam radiotherapy for surgically resected, nonmetastatic anaplastic thyroid cancer
Head & Neck Feb 12, 2020
Saeed NA, Kelly JR, Deshpande HA, et al. - Since external beam radiation therapy (EBRT) in resected, nonmetastatic anaplastic thyroid cancer (ATC), a rare and aggressive subtype of thyroid cancer, remains undefined, researchers conducted this retrospective analysis to assess patterns/outcomes with EBRT and chemotherapy in this setting. Participants in the study were individuals identified from the National Cancer Database with nonmetastatic ATC from 2004 to 2014 who had a non-palliative resection. The analysis involved 496 individuals, including 375 who had adjuvant EBRT (among whom 198 received concurrent chemotherapy). Findings suggested an association of adjuvant EBRT with longer OS in resected, nonmetastatic ATC, with additional improved survival with concurrent chemotherapy.
