Adjuvant chemoradiotherapy vs radiotherapy in cervical cancer patients with intermediate-risk factors: A systematic review and meta-analysis
European Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Reproductive Biology May 09, 2019
Li M, et al. - Researchers compared chemoradiotherapy (CRT) vs radiotherapy (RT) groups in cervical cancer patients with intermediate-risk factors regarding the recurrence-free survival (RFS), overall survival (OS), grade III/IV hematologic toxicity and grade III/IV non-hematologic toxicity in this systematic review and meta-analysis. Via systematically searching PubMed, Cochrane, and Embase, they identified 9 eligible studies that were included in this analysis (CRT: n = 870; RT: n = 932). Outcomes revealed dramatically improved RFS and OS with the receipt of CRT compared with RT in early-stage cervical cancer patients with intermediate-risk factors. These patients well-tolerated CRT, apart from the increase in grade III/IV hematologic toxicity. CRT was the accepted treatment for early-stage cervical cancer.
