Shen H, et al. - In this meta-analysis, researchers aimed to verify if adjunctive therapy with statins could improve psychiatric symptoms in schizophrenia. Findings revealed a reduction in negative symptoms in relation to adjunctive therapy with simvastatin. The duration of statins therapy seemed to influence psychiatric symptoms. High dose simvastatin was prone to negative symptoms decrease. In participants receiving compliant with statins, psychiatric symptoms significantly reduced. Findings thereby clarified that adjunctive therapy with statins could improve psychiatric symptoms, either negative symptoms or positive symptoms.
