Adherence to antiretroviral treatment and associated factors among people living with HIV and AIDS in CHITWAN, Nepal

Neupane S, et al. - Among People Living with Human immune deficiency virus (HIV) and Acquired immune deficiency syndrome in ART (antiretroviral therapy) Center of Chitwan, Nepal, researchers assessed the adherence to ART and its related factors. Including 231 clients (aged 18 years to 49 years) receiving ART from Bharatpur Hospital of Chitwan, a descriptive cross-sectional analysis was undertaken. They interrogated those who have been enrolled in ART for at least 6 months. A 87.4% overall adherence in the last month was reported. For taking ART on time, the facilitators were wrist watch and mobiles, because clients receiving ART used to set alarm to get informed of the medication time. The factors that were found to be related to adherence were: female sex, family consisting only parents and their children, having no habit of taking alcohol, HIV duration of more than 3 years, picking up ART medications on their own and not having side effects of ART.
