Adenoid hypertrophy causing obstructive sleep apnea in children after pharyngeal flap surgery
European Archives of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology Sep 19, 2019
Abdel-Aziz M, et al. - In this investigation, researchers evaluated the efficacy of transnasal endoscopic power-assisted adenoidectomy in relieving obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in patients with adenoid hypertrophy who had pharyngeal flap surgery and the effect of the procedure on their speech. For nine children presenting with adenoid hypertrophy, transnasal endoscopic power-assisted adenoidectomy was performed. In children undergoing pharyngeal flap surgery, which can cause OSA, adenoid hypertrophy may be encountered. Transnasal endoscopic power-assisted adenoidectomy in these patients is a safe and effective method of treating OSA without prejudice to the pharyngeal flap and has no adverse effect on speech.
