Added value of including entire brain on body imaging with FDG PET/MRI
American Journal of Roentgenology Jun 10, 2018
Franceschi AM, et al. - Researchers retrospectively identified and characterized brain findings incidentally detected on PET/MRI of the body with the head included among two hundred sixty-nine patients. By a nuclear medicine physician and neuroradiologist, PET/MR images of the brain were reviewed, first individually and then concurrently. When the head was not included, routine body imaging with FDG PET/MRI of the area from the skull base to the mid thigh could miss important brain abnormalities. Results of this study suggested that the additional brain abnormalities detected on whole-body imaging could provide added clinical value to the management of oncology patients.
