Ad hoc percutaneous coronary intervention in patients with stable coronary artery disease: A report from the National Cardiovascular Data Registry CathPCI Registry

American Heart Journal Aug 14, 2019

Faridi KF, Rymer JA, Rao SV, et al. - In patients with stable coronary artery disease (CAD), researchers assessed contemporary rates of ad hoc percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) use (PCI performed in the same procedure as diagnostic coronary angiography). They also focused on risks of adverse outcomes related to ad hoc PCI in these patients. Using the National Cardiovascular Data Registry CathPCI Registry from 2009 to 2017, 550,742 patients with stable CAD who underwent PCI were identified. Logistic regression with inverse probability weighted propensity adjustment was used to compare patients receiving ad hoc vs non-ad hoc PCI with regard to in-hospital bleeding, acute kidney injury (AKI), and death. Findings revealed an extremely common prevalence of ad hoc PCI among US patients with stable CAD. Lower bleeding risk was noted with ad hoc PCI vs non–ad hoc PCI, but the risks of AKI or mortality did not differ between the two groups.
