Injury Sep 12, 2017
Ali Yousef MA, et al. - The current study's goal was to assess the frequency of pediatric patellar tendon rupture injuries and report the radiological findings, treatment modalities, and outcome of such injuries. In the pediatric population, patellar tendon rupture was rare and represented 7% of pediatric patients who sustained an acute traumatic injury of the knee extensor mechanism. Ruptures could occur midsubstance, or from proximal or distal insertions. For such injury, high riding patella was the hallmark diagnostic sign. It was recognized as a serious injury, although rare, that necessitated early diagnosis and surgical intervention. In all patients with different modalities of treatment, functional range of motion was obtained.
