Acute respiratory distress syndrome-attributable mortality in critically ill patients with sepsis
Intensive Care Medicine Mar 27, 2020
Auriemma CL, Zhuo H, Delucchi K, et al. - Among intensive care unit (ICU) patients with sepsis, researchers examined the independent link of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) with in-hospital mortality. From the Early Assessment of Renal and Lung Injury (EARLI; n = 474) and Validating Acute Lung Injury markers for Diagnosis (VALID; n = 337) cohorts, two prospective sepsis cohorts were analyzed. The occurrence of ARDS was reported in 195 EARLI patients (41%) and 99 VALID patients (29%). Overall, in ICU patients with sepsis, ARDS occurrence conferred increased risk of ICU and in-hospital mortality in addition to other crucial outcomes.
