Acute kidney injury and infections in patients taking antihypertensive drugs: A self-controlled case series analysis
Clinical Epidemiology Feb 10, 2018
Mansfield KE, et al. - Among users of antihypertensive drugs, the risks of hospital admission with acute kidney injury (AKI) following infections (urinary tract infection [UTI], lower respiratory tract infection [LRTI], and gastroenteritis) were determined. A substantial increase in transient AKI risk was evident in association with acute infections among antihypertensive users. This risk was highest after gastroenteritis. Users of angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors/angiotensin receptor blockers showed a relative risk increase, but not greater than users of other antihypertensives.
