European Archives of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology Jan 25, 2019
Shanbag R, et al. - Between September 2015 to September 2017, 14 candidates were studied to analyze the consequences of acute invasive fungal rhinosinusitis (AIFRS) among population. Researchers took samples for Potassium hydroxide mount (the screening test of choice), histopathological studies, and fungal culture and initiated the management with antifungals and multi-approach surgical debridement. They observed 6 candidates with multiple comorbidities and many others with uncontrolled diabetes. During the follow-up period of 15.12 months, all the subjects were alive and disease free. They concluded a high index of mistrust, awareness among medical fraternity and precise sample collection helped in the firm diagnosis. Simultaneous initiation of surgical debridement and antifungals were considered mandatory.
