Acute hypocalcaemia following denosumab in heart and lung transplant patients with osteoporosis
Internal Medicine Journal Jun 23, 2018
Shrosbree JE, et al. - The risk of hypocalcaemia in a heart and lung transplant cohort prescribed denosumab for osteoporosis was investigated in this analysis. A retrospective database review was performed of all surviving heart and lung transplant patients who received denosumab between January 2012 and November 2015 for osteoporosis. The findings from the present study showed that half of the patients prescribed denosumab developed some level of hypocalcemia. Researchers suggested that denosumab should be used cautiously in patients with advanced renal disease due to the risk of hypocalcaemia in heart and lung transplant patients.
